Merry Christmas From the Farm



P. Allen Smith's Garden Home Retreat is centered on axis with a goliath centuries-old post oak in the Arkansas River Valley

This past weekend, I took my mom to our annual Foster family Christmas gathering in Little Rock, AR and we stayed at my cousin's farm and garden retreat in the country.  The gathering represents about four generations of my grandmother's family.



The Greek-revival farm house is newly built - but my cousin went to painstaking efforts to make sure the architecture was faithful to the mid-ninteenth century pre-Civil War homes that would have been found in this farming valley.  The garden retreat is often used in his syndicated television shows and gardening books.

    WOW TR, everything about this place is spectacular. Love the house, gardens and decorations, all look so festive. What a delightful place to retreat and spend the holidays with family. Also really like the fun you had with the photos.

    Wow, TR. This is now my favorite post. Your link to the subject matter is deep and intense. Real history can be hard to come about in this land of development. That shot of the house with the tree boughs in front of it! The colors, the sense of tradition. I am delighted and moved.

    This makes me cry the photos are so beautiful. You have such a gift. The first photo of P.Allen's house could also be a Halloween photo. This is so wild when I am down and go to P.Allen's website just to look at his house. I love it!!! I'm going to copy it one day, I have a lot of faith!!!
