I am a lover of deserts. They are epic, timeless, ancient, silent, intimate and full of life defying the greatest of odds. I'm grateful to have gotten  the chance to spend a short time in the Arabian Desert before heading to Russia. I think the Little Prince sums up the desert experience most aptly: "I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs and gleams. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

Oasis: coming up on something like this, in the most far away, out of reach place, evokes so much mystery for me. I always want to know what life is like on the other side of the doors; what magnificent things must glimmer and shine in this desert light behind those formidable walls.

If ever I get to live in the desert again, I want to live like this.
