TR Ryan

TR Ryan is a forty-something traveler by trade, photographer, conservationist and "accidental birdist" who once again calls the rolling prairies of Oklahoma home. In 1986 he walked away from a fledgling journalism career to take a year and “see a little something of the world”. Twenty-two years, six continents and eighty-five countries later, “From the Faraway, Nearby” is the photographic journal that celebrates both his native Oklahoma and the people, places and natural history TR encounters as he travels the world.

Professional Bio

Timothy Ryan is an event and destination management consultant based in Oklahoma City.  He is also a professional photographer.
Currently he is working with sponsorship management for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Born and raised in Oklahoma, he spent more than 25 years managing events for Wall Street and Fortune 500 companies around the world.  He’s consulted in an on-site operations capacity for every single Olympic Games since 2000.   He has also worked as an expedition leader and tour manager for a private jet company in Albania, Siberia and Cambodia.  He has lived and worked abroad in more than 90 countries on six continents.  Before moving back to Oklahoma City, he spent seven years in Dayton, OH, 13 years in Santa Fe, NM and a year each in Torino, Italy and Athens, Greece.

Timothy returned to Oklahoma full-time in 2007.  In addition to his event consulting work, he produces an award-winning Oklahoma travel and nature photography blog and is also the Oklahoma Outdoor writer for Examiner.com and a contributing photographer for Oklahoma Today magazine.  He serves on the Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech Media Arts Curriculum Advisory Board.  Timothy received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations from Oklahoma State University in 1984.

Photographer's Bio

Captivated by the timeless beauty of ancient cultures and anchored by a strong spiritual connection to nature, TR Ryan’s photography captures the “poetry of place” as expressed by the remarkable diversity and absolute wonder of the places and people he meets on his travels.   He has studied with photojournalist Sarah Meghan Lee and National Geographic photographer Raul Tuzon through the Santa Fe Workshops.

In the summer of 2009, Ryan’s first exhibition, “Nicaragua”, opened in Santa Fe, NM.  He is a contributing photographer for Oklahoma Today Magazine.
