Amongst Old Friends

Highway 285
San Miguel County, New Mexico

This morning I moving fast, racing against both time and weather. A storm is brewing - the sky is crashing around me.  The winds are whipping the hard scab of winter into a dusty frenzy.  The earth shakes.  I am racing up the mountain as fast as I can. This godspeed is fueled by a longing for the soft light of luminarias at Christmas and the smell of pinon woodsmoke spicing the cold desert air.  All this haste punctuates this narrow valley for no other reason than to to relish a few precious moments in the desert amongst old friends.

"pinion spicing the air"......... that speaks a lot and causes one desire for the odor. Creosote and Oak leaf litter also have that effect upon me. Beautiful.
