Morning in Paris

Paris, November 2005

On a dreary Friday afternoon, I made a mad and desperate dash from my office in Torino, Italy to the train station and jumped on the high speed train to France just as it was passing through from Milan. 5 hours later I was dining in Paris with a vacationing friend from Santa Fe. I had been away from home for four months by this time and it was good to see someone from my own “village” and to speak uncompromised English for hours on end. One of the best things about living in Torino was that with little effort one could have lunch on the French Riviera or dinner in Florence. For a weekend getaway, the possibilities were endless.

Early the next morning, I took a long and deliciously solitary walk through the streets of Paris, dodging rain showers along the way. I crossed in front of the Louvre Museum and this reflection of the museum’s I.M. Pei pyramid on a Paris sidewalk on a balmy November morning is a moment I’ll not forget.

I'd like to pretend I'm not jealous that this turned out better than anything I took in Paris. Even so, I'm so glad I can enjoy your photos and their artistry.
